I was the first out of my group of friends to start driving, so we went crazy. Taking trips to Westport, the park, skipping seminar, leaving for lunch, going out to parties and anything imaginable.
Four months after I started driving I received a DUI. Some friends and I were drinking in one of my girl friends garage and we came up with the idea to go get some goodies from Quick Trip. Quick words to the wise; 1.) NEVER DRINK AND DRIVE. And 2.) NEVER race while driving under the influence. We were walking out to the cars and my friend look over at me, knowing my obsession for driving, said "You want to drive don't you." All  it took was a big ass grin and we hurried to my car and followed the others out onto 87th street. I was following the guy we were with in his white mustang, and as we were turning on to 87th, he peeled out and took off. If someone eggs me on, I have to do it. Our mid night trip to Quick Trip turned into a revved up race. Going 60 down 87th, we beat the others to our destination. All giggles me and my friend got out of the car and started walking into the gas station when I cop came rolling up behind us with her lights on. She congratulated me on winning and then soon after arrested my butt. The other car got away with a fine for the only fact that his father was a police man.
It's been one year and two and a half months since i've been behind the wheel of my little Lexi. I would have been out and back on the roads in September if it weren't for my incident of driving with a suspended licence a month after my licence had been suspended. Let's just say I learned my lesson. From this day, I have 20 more until i'll finally have my license back in my wallet and i'll be back on those roads...sober of course. : ) Kids, take it from me, DO NOT DRINK. AND. DRIVE. There could be bigger consequences than just losing your license. Taking a life is not something that anyone plans to do, and I was lucky my incident didn't hurt anyone.
I am proud to say though that i've accepted my legal consequence, and have had a lesson well learned. See you drivers out on the roads in TWENTY DAYS! : )

Yo M-Dor, we all make mistakes.I am glad you are recognizing that you have made an unwise decision. But you are indeed wise in trying to prevent other people from making a decision that they would too regret. You have passed some obstacles on this journey, and keep on passing them!
ReplyDeleteI'm mad he got away with only a fine, but I agree with Grant, we all make mistakes. We learn from our mistakes. I mean hey, we're just being young and trying to have fun.
ReplyDeleteOnly 14 days away! I hope you get your licence back soon - only one offence shouldn't hold you up for too long
ReplyDeleteThis entry made me so scared for you! i'm happy you will be back on the road in no time.
